As you know, we have a few quirky family words that most outsiders don't understand. We know that a "guzunder" is is that flat tool that "goes under" pancakes or hamburgers to flip them over. I think other people call it something boring like a spatula or turner. Sheesh!
The other day Josh was washing dishes but the guzunder was still really dirty. I told him to get it back out and wash it again. Kendra was confused and asked what a guzunder is. Josh, thinking fast, made up his own definition. He said, "It's a name for girls who are about Bekah's age."
Kendra smiled, she liked that idea. "So Bekah's a guzunder?"
Josh said, "She sure is."
Kendra giggled and said, "I can't wait until I'm a guzunder. Then I can go to big kid parties with other guzunders just like me!"
We all got a good laugh and she was only slightly disappointed that she would never grow up to become a real guzunder.

Dear Family of Mine...
Whats up famiy??? Good morning from Missoura!!! Almost afternoon... Sounds like things back home are doing pretty good!! Thanks for the email Shaw family... That is way cool you used the song idea for Joseph Smiths first prayer...with Come thou fount melody!! That is like my fav thing ever!!! Thanks for all the emails this week, it is awesome hearing from everyone!! Wowsers... Crazy to think i only will be emailing a few more times!! I-karamba that is nuts!! Madie is way too funny... she asked me in a letter this week if i was TRUNKY yet??? Just so the family knows I think I'm doing pretty good!! We are working out tails off and it is so so much fun!!! This is such a great area to die in!! The Fleming Park ward is way supportive and the Kansas City stake is on fire right now!! Especially compared to what it has been!! The zone averages like 3-4 baptisms a month on a good month, and since we have gotten MTC new teaching curriculum we have like 10 this month and like 9 committed for OCT already!! Its so sweet to see all these amazing miracles happening!!
It was way cool... because we have so many people getting baptized this week i got to have my first Baptism Interview with a investigator. His name was D.J. some other Elders in another ward taught him and its part of the mission leaders job to make sure they have been taught and know everything.. Thus we have interviews :) So yeah I got to interview D.J. and it was a way cool spiritual experience!! Talked about the his experience with the church and how he knew it was true, he bore his testimony about how much he loved that ward and the bishop... IT was Sweet!! Oh and i asked him the interview questions... I guess that is important or something like that!!! JK. Its weird kinda being in leadership but opportunities like that are so worth it!! Man it was pretty crazy this week has been ridiculous ona couple of Elders in the zone wanting to kill each other!!! Yeah that's a bit different.. I used to think it was funny when elders would argue and stuff but not so funny when you have to fix things!! Blah... the mission president is just like "just do whatever you have to do so we don't have emergency transfers!!" Its funny, sad and ridiculous all at the same time!! Ahh.. 19-21 yr old guys together 24/7 for 2 years... you really have to work on not killing each other!!!
This week was a little crazy a Less-Active we were helping come back to the church passed away. It was really wierd!! He was a awesome older brother in the ward, Bro. Hearn. Then we got news that Diana Araujo's biological father passed away in a car accident. she was pretty upset she had never met him but just started gettting in contact to meet him!! Pretty tuff right after joining the church. She is still doing awesome though, she was at church yesterday. Just a little down right now. On some lighter news... The Kansas City Cheifs have won two games in a row!! Everyone here is way excited, probably cause last year they only won two games total!! Ha ha so funny!! I think Chiefs are my new football team till Utah gets a team close by, which it doesn't matter cause i don't really watch too much football!!! So mom about coming home I really appreicate the money to send something home, I will get a box ready soon. I am not sure about the flight home info yet...I will ask the mission office and see when they will tell you!! I LOVE YOU all!! Have a awesome week family!! Take care, talk to you soon!!!
MUCH LOVE, ELDER LANCE E. MURIE

From Madie -BUSY BUSY BUSY!
Mon, 20 Sep 2010
Hello Family and Friends!
I can't even tell you how busy we have been over the last week and how busy we are going to continue to be! It's crazy! The work in Marion is moving forward! Our investiagators are doing amazing! Keith Manns is working on getting baptized this Saturday the 25th of September! We just have to finish teaching him the lessons and get him interviewed by the district leader! He has been living the Word of Wisdom for 2 weeks now. Well mostly, he has had one slip up on Friday but if he stays clean and will live it from now on he will be able to be baptized on Saturday! It's so exciting seeing these people's lives changed! Abby is doing good. She is having a little more difficult time living the word of wisdom but is trying and has cut back on smoking. Her boyfriend moved out the other night after we taught her the Law of Chastity! Pretty exciting! We are also teaching her 2 little girls Zoey and Chloe who are 10 and 8! They will be getting baptized on October 9th if she can quit smoking! Tara is also amazing! She has been living the Word of Wisdom and has only slipped up once in the last week! All of these investigators have been coming to church and loving it! It's just fabulas! We have a few other investigators we are just continuing to work with! We also have 50 people that we have to contact in the next few weeks. We had a booth in the popcorn festival and that is how many people we got to sign up and so hopefully some good investigators will come off of the list! It's just great!
Transfers were this week and as you can tell I am still in Marion. I did get a new companion though. Her name is Sister Loosli. Pronounced Loose-ly, like tightly and loosley! She is really awesome! I have come to love her already! I know we are going to do some great work this transfer. She is from Southern California from a city called Irvin. She has been on her mission only 3 weeks longer than me. It was cool because she actually is from the Cincinatti Mission. She went into the MTC 3 weeks earlier than me. I stayed in her room and we had the same teachers in the MTC. It was cool and so we learned a lot of the same things from our MTC teachers and we are going to be celebrating our 1/2 way marks together! I love her though!
I got the medical letter. Thank you. They are drawing my blood in 6 weeks and I think they are doing 3 tests on it. And then I will go to doctor Kwaja on Nov 30.
Thank you for sending me pictures of Rhondee's wedding! She is so beautiful! I love her and hope she is happy! I did hear that Kennedy is engaged! That's so cool! I am excited for her! I still can't believe how many people have gotten married since I left! I am going to come home and be the only single person left! Crazy! Hopefully I won't stay single for to long though.
But time is up! I love you all so much! Thanks again for all the love and support that you give me! I love getting letters and packages from most of you! It's so exciting to get mail! I hope you have a great week!
Love, Sister Madison Whitney
Read the Book of Mormon! It's amazing! I have grown so much from reading it daily! I know it's Another Testament of Christ and it truly will bring us closer to Christ and our Heavenly Father!

Hey ya bunch of Cream PUFFs!!!!
Man, I love cream puffs... I love you family!!! What has everyone been up to the last week or so??? Any big news in the family?? Things here are going super well, as usual!!! Lots and lots of work being done in the Fleming park ward!!! I really have a hard time believing that today is again Monday!! That just seems to weird!! This week has been crazy we have had something big going on everyday!!! Monday = Pday, Tuesday = Zone Leader Council, Wednesday = District meeting, Thursday = Leadership Conference, Friday = District Meeting again...!!!! It has been all over the place!!! And we have had exchanges with other companionship's in between all that!!! Ha Ha... Some days i feel like my head is going to unscrew but it doesn't!! (Thank Goodness!!!) It is fun being a leader in the mission, I'm glad I haven't been a leader for most of my mission sometimes it seems like we only get a little proselyting time some days!! All day meetings and such!! I really am Loving it right now though!!! Got another picture from zone leader council again... Such a great group of goons!!! I Love our mission president, President Van Komen, it is so nice being able so see him so often!!! Great week!!
So besides all the meetings and missionary conferences and such.. we are teaching some pretty amazing people!! We have found a lot of new investigators that are really promising!!! In this area there are a ton of RLDS, Reorganized Latter day saints, or now know as the Community of Christ because they went bankrupt!!! So this week we got a referral for this RLDS family and they are from a branch of the Community of Christ... A branch form a branch and so on... They broke away because of the doctrine changing so much... Women holding the priesthood, No real study of the Book of Mormon and stuff like that. So we went over and gave them the item that was referred to them and it was such a cool experince talking with them!! Kind of hard to teach because we have all the same beliefs almost, Joseph Smith a prophet, Book of Mormon being the word of God!!! CRAZY!!! I Love them though, the Fleming Family. Way cool they even gave Elder Benson and I a hymnal from the RLDS church!!! We have a few of the same hymns... its funny that even some of the hymns have been altered!!! Super hard because they are so close to the truth!!! Such a great family, they actually knew the Book of Mormon really well unlike most RLDS, which is a good sign they are a break off of the RLDS!!! We are going back soon, I think we will focus on the Temple!!! They really don't share any of the beliefs on the temple and one of the family members is about to get married so that might be interesting for them!!! Ha Ha... "Hey would you like your marriage to last forever???" I LOVE this Doctrine!!!
Man, Speaking of Temples... this week we taught Diana about the temple, baptisms for the dead. She really loved it and said she would prepare to go to the temple!!! That is so cool to hear... It is so amazing to see a convert take that next step to the temple!!! Ahhh... I'm so excited to go to the temple more often when i get home. That something cool to look forward to!!! OH and i get to see you awesome Hooligans!!! I LOVE YOU ALL SO SO SO MUCH!!! I Love this work, it is the best and coolest thing ever to assist our Heavenly Father in his work and his glory!! Crazy he puts so much trust in 19-21 year old guys and 21 yr old+ gals to spread the gospel...Hey, He knows best!!! By small and simple things are great things brought to past.. to bring about the salvation of many souls!!!!! Have a great week family!!! I love you!!! Till next week, Elder Lance Murie

Hey There!
Mon, 13 Sep 2010
Hey family!
Things are still going really great here in Marion! Its crazy how fast time is going by! I can't believe it! Abby, Tara, and Keith are still all on for baptism! Keith hasn't had a cigerette since tuesday last week. Tara and Abby both quit yesterday! It's really excited! They are all doing amazing! It's cool becasue Abby's kids Zoey and Chloe are wanting to get baptized on October 9th with their mom! So we should be having 5 baptisms with in the next few weeks! I love seeing the change this gospel brings into peoples lives! The popcorn festival was really fun! It was draining though! Being there from 11-9 everyday for three days gets tiring! We seemed to have a lot of success from it! We ended up having 218 contacts, which means we taught them a principle of the gospel and commited them to do something. We had 53 people sign up for either copies of the Book of Mormon, Bibles, or DVD's. It was pretty cool. We had the other missionaries come out and help us which was cool because it's always great to see other missionaries! It was really cool! I bought this awesome shirt from the festival that says Peace, Love, and Popcorn! Haha... That was the theme! And they have a popcorn festival because they do have a popcorn factory out here. They even have a popcorn museam! Pretty sweet! I ate so much popcorn this last week though! It was good!
I got Rondee's wedding invitation this week! She is so beautiful! I am sad I am not there for the wedding! I wish I could be there! I miss her! Tell her I love her and wish I could be there! I hope you have fun at that!
I heard that Cheryl, Christi, and Cheri are all coming down! That should be fun! I wish I could also be there to see them. Gosh... I am missing all kinds of things! But I know that I need to be out here doing the work I am doing. It's just sad to miss so much sometimes!
I could kind of read the letter from the doctor. I have the others and so I will compare my levels over the last few times. I do not need any more pills! I have a ton! We bought like 500 before I left! 15 mg a day is only a pill and a half. So thats not horrible. I do have to go back in 6 weeks to get my blood drawn and go back to the doctor in 3 months. I think Nov. 30 was the date. Ugh... did you get anything back from the financial aid place. I mailed the thing in.
Transfers are this week and so I will let you know what happens. Most likely I will be staying in Marion but we will see! I love you all so much! Thanks for all the support you give me! I love you!

Hello from Sister Whitney
Tue, 7 Sep 2010
Hello Family!!
I have the best news ever!!! SISTER MISSIONARIES DON"T HAVE TO WEAR NYLONS ANYMORE!!! It's amazing! We got a letter in the mail today and they totally updated the Sister Missionary wear. Remember all the really ugly outfits in my call letter. Well, now they are cute and updated! It was a great letter. We no longer have to wear nylons and our skirts only have to cover the knee now! It's great! So no more buying knee highs! Super excited I hate those things! But anyways... besides that excellent news this has been an amazing week!
The lord is really blessing this area! We have 3 investigators with a baptisimal date! The first one is Abby. She is probably in her 30's. Abby has 3 kids: Zoey-10, Chloe-8, and Ian-5! She came to church for the 2nd week in a row. We watched the Joseph Smith Prophet of the Restoration dvd with her and then committed her to baptism on October 9th. She has a lot to overcome before then like smoking, coffee, and boyfriend. But she knows it's true and she wants to go forward! It's a little difficult for her because her family is anything but supportive! Her grandpa is a minister in another church and is really coming down on her but she just keeps telling him sorry and she knows this is what is right for her! She is amazing! Hopefully her and her 2 kids will all be getting baptized on Oct. 9th but it may take longer depending on the boyfriend thing... We will see.
We are also teaching Keith. Keith lives with his member brother Kevin and his wife Carla. They are an amazing family. We have been teaching him and we also watched the Joseph Smith dvd with him and when it was over he looked at us and said "I found my home!" It was so powerful! The spirit was so strong and he knew that this is what he needs to do. He has come to church twice and has a baptisimal date for September 25! He also has to quit smoking! But they are willing and the Lord will help them!
We have also been teaching Tara! She lives with a less active, Barb Rickerd! She is actually the one who texted you to get the brownie recipe! But we have been teaching her daughter and she loves it! She has read the entire first book of Nephi in 2 weeks! She hasn't been able to come to church because she works, but she has next sunday off and will be asking for all her sundays off or at least a later shift so she can come to church! She also has a baptisimal date for October 9th! It's amazing! I love seeing the gospel change peoples lives! I love serving a mission!
But that is pretty much how the work is going here in Marion! We are also working at a booth at the popcorn festival on thurs, friday, and sat. this week! Its pretty exciting!
The weather is pretty hot still. It's really annoying because the weather changes so fast here. It could be cold one day and hot the next! ugh...
We do have a Walmart in Marion! It's way nice. We can go everyweek now. It's just when I was in Greenfield we didn't have one and so we had to go into another area. My hair is doing fine I think. I should probably color it again soon but I still have color so I am doing fine. I do like my companion Sister Hulburt. She is really nice. We have different personalites and likes and dislikes and so sometimes that makes it difficult but she is nice.
I hope all is well with everything at home! I love you all so much! I miss you! But time is flying by! I can't believe I have been out 71/2 months! Crazy! I love you and keep you all in my prayers!
Love, Sister Madison Whitney
p.s. Write me letters!

Hi Family!!!
Whats up you lovely bunch of Goonies!?!?!? How was every ones Labor Day weekend??? Happy Birthday all yous getting to be a little bit older!!! Brenden, Rach, Ethan!!! You guys are the best... Hope you B-days are or were the best!!! Caprice and David, Happy Anniversary!!! 18 Years!!! That is so Amazing, So Crazy!!! I just got a card from Madie's parents and they just recently had their 25th anniversary!! That is the coolest thing ever!!! Congrats to many this week!!! Ahh it has been such a fast and crazy good week!!! DIANA got Baptized!!!! It was the coolest baptism ever!!! Man, Every baptism seems to be the coolest baptism ever!! It was Saturday morning, Elder Benson and I went in a bit early filled up the font and then Diana and the Shelleys got there and a lot of people made it to support Diana, which is way good!! Diana is 17 and it was way neat because the Young Womens leader gave her a bunch of YW thingys, yeah im kinda oblivious to all that but like a Personal Progress and a torch necklace. Then as part of the service the Young Women in the ward sang a song called "Daughters of God" it was powerful, Diana started to cry. It was amazing when she was actually baptized. Her and Bro. Shelley went down into the water and right when Diana grabbed Bro. Shelley's wrist she just started crying and crying, and then she went under the water and she just came up so Happy!!! And then just hugged Bro. Shelley and just kept crying and crying!!!! Sis. Shelley said she cried for like ten minutes before she came back to the service!!! Don't worry though these were those really really good cries!! Man, before the mission the only person i would make cry was Cody and now we try to make everyone cry, Ha Ha... This work is so FUN!!! :)
Ahhh... I Love this area!! Found out what is happening for my last transfer... Elder Benson and I will be staying together in the Fleming Park area for the next 5 weeks!!! Man, Mom you are so bad!! Not cool reminding me how many days left... That is way to weird!! Ha... Crazy!!! It is crazy in this area.. I think i told you we cover two units, A family ward and a singles branch. It was a little lame cause last week i was down at the singles branch for church cause we have the same times so we split... and i had to miss Diana's confirmation!!! I was so bummed out!! Then i was even more when i heard she got up and bore her testimony in the meeting!! That is so amazing!!! Ahh i wish i was there but yeah thats just kind of how it had to work out!!! So cool though... at the Independence Visitor's Center the had a mission president's fireside where recent converts can bare their testimonies.. And the Shelleys and Her went with us up there and she bore such a solid testimony on the Book of Mormon and knowing that Joseph Smith is a prophet!! Wow... its amazing teaching people and really finding out how much not what we taught but what the spirit has taught that person!!! I Love this work!!! Man, definitely going to be a amazing transfer!!! I'm going to make sure I Crushendo (spelling) the end of my mission. or in other words finish my mission at the top, be the best i can be!!! I LOVE you all so so much!! time is up today... but i will talk to you all next week!!! Kinda crazy i will only email home a few more times!!! Wowsers... Anywho... Much Love,
Elder Lance E Murie
Ps. Sister Whitney.. Have a Awesome week!! I LOVE YOU!!!
